F.O.P. LAUNCHES THE STEVE YOUNG MEMORIAL
                                                  SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM WEBSITE

F.O.P. National President Chuck Canterbury announced today the addition of the Steve Young
Memorial Scholarship Program website to the Grand Lodge homepage :

The site provides an overview of the program, a frequently asked questions (FAQ) section, and all
of the materials needed to apply for the scholarship. The site is extremely user-friendly and
eligible spouses are able to apply and submit their application online. F.O.P. Grant Liaisons are
encouraged to direct eligible spouses to the new website in addition to sending them the
                                    application materials through the mail.

"We are very pleased to have the website up and running,” Canterbury said. “It’s one more resource that can be used to inform survivors about this scholarship and enable them to take advantage of the career opportunities it offers.”

The Steve Young Memorial Scholarship Program was created by a partnership between the U.S. Department of Labor and the Fraternal Order of Police as a means of assisting spouses of police offers killed in the line of duty between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2006. The scholarship will help these spouses to obtain the skills needed to successfully support themselves and their children.

The total amount of the grant is $2 million, distributed over four years at $500,000 per year. It is the largest grant of this type ever awarded by the Department of Labor and is expected to provide assistance to 4050 surviving spouses per year. Scholarship funds can be used to pay for education programs, job training, and career counseling services. Recipients can use the money to learn new skills, upgrade current skills sets, or pursue and complete a college degree.

"While this program cannot erase the grief that comes with the loss of a loved one, it will help to lessen the financial burdens with which these families must contend,” Canterbury said.
